The Victorian Cybernetics Episode

This is another extra-long episode, where Logo and I discuss the results of our recent readings into the history of the idea of the British Empire, and the development of the economic and scientific ideologies which supported its growth.

Future shows will focus specifically on issues mentioned in the episode, but also on topics like the development of corporate governance structures, anarchism in America, labor movements, foundations, the history of finance and derivatives, scientific management... There's a lot we're going to have to cover.

This was great. Please do a follow up episode to this one. The discussion about utilitarian incentive structures was interesting. Reminded me of Byung-Chul Han's Psychopolitics. He describes neoliberalism’s “psychic turn” in which the psyche, rather than the body, is optimized as a productive force as opposed to biopolitics. He also draws on the Panopticon and open plan office.
