The Tailscale app. I setup a VPN using Tailscale on my server, and then can access it using the Tailscale app on my other devices. Super easy to setup and works great on my phone over 5G. Took me only 10 minutes to get it working. Hope that helps! I’m on a much smaller scale for my Jellyfin server, so I’m excited to hear how both of you enjoy your server!

2025-08-31 21:54:05 +0000 UTCWhile I’m not personally familiar with Jellyfin servers, I am an IT instructor and teach networking. If you want to access your server outside your network without setting a firewall rule to allow external connections to it, you should be able to accomplish the same access by setting up your own VPN to your home network. This way when you are on the go, you can connect to your home VPN, your device will then be treated the same as if it were on your home network and it should be able to access the Jellyfin server the same way it does when you are home. That’s how I would personally do it if I wanted external access. Hope this helps!
