Why are there so many Environmental Themes in Nintendo Games?

From the man vs. machine story of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, to Pikmin's warning of unchecked depletion of resources, to Mario Sunshine's simple anti-pollution story, Nintendo games often feature Environmental Themes. But why? What has lead Nintendo to create so many games with environmental themes at the heart of their story and gameplay.
