Well chi cheng character is really isnโt likable to begin with, heโs really red flag or maybe black? I didnโt get to vote during the poll so when I saw that youโre reacting to this I immediately thought that chi cheng character is not really your taste ๐ 16 episodes have already aired so Iโm really attached with the characters, and I became fan of tian xuning too (the one playing chi cheng). Anyways looking forward to your reaction to this ๐๐๐

I have some thoughts about this fascination with dominance commonly seen in BL and queer culture. I was reading a collection of female fantasies over the years (a book called โmy secret gardenโ) and there were similar recurring themes of control and dominance and honestly kinda r*pey vibe. I looked into this and found research on how cultures where there is shame and repression around sexuality (such as in homophobic societies and purity cultures) there are more fantasise where you give up control. The thinking behind it is that you have such a guilty response around even arousal that you only feel like you can experience it if something is being done to you and you have no choice (aka if youโre being taken by force itโs not your fault making you blameless even if you enjoyed it). Pretty fucked up but fascinating to learn about if youโre into all that human brain evolution stuff! In terms of storyline, I suspect that aggressive sexual tension is easier to write than emotional connection, it comes across as more stereotypically masculine and you donโt have to flesh out your characters with growth (yeah Iโm throwing some shade on some BL writing out there). Itโs still ep 1 tho so Iโm hopeful these are just characters that need thawing ๐
