Isla and many others have said the pandemic hiring spree was short-sighted and irresponsible, leading to mass firings in 2023 and 2024. My perspective is that all those developers did still get a few years' salary and health insurance out of it. Being laid off is awful, but I think we should bear in mind something when admonishing companies: thousands of developers benefited from the corporate "irresponsibility" too. Not an excuse for rampant layoff, just a thought.

I know corrections aren’t a thing anymore but what Damiani said about Japan isn’t 100% true. Yes, mass layoffs don’t happen that often, but it’s because most of the staff are contract workers. Because they don’t technically lay you off, it’s just they don’t renew your contract. The full-time employees are the main directors, programmers, etc. So the layoffs happen often in Japan but they aren’t technically lay offs. And the gaming industry is full of contract workers.

TCG Live like just came out of beta last year too it's so confusing

To clarify - there’s already a Pokémon TCG game on phones that is the whole game, Pokémon TCG Live. Pocket seems to be focusing more on the “digital” aspect of digital card games rather than being the game itself.
