Love and Respect for June 7th Podcast

Greetings, it's time to get your submissions in for this week's podcast. Be sure to include your preferred name if it's different from what's listed on your Patreon profile. Please submit your entries by Wednesday at 5:00 PM.

This week is our Summer Game Fest episode, and we'll be recording on Friday night after the showcases are done. Also we'll have Kyle Bosman with us since he's in town for the show. There should be tons to talk about, so there won't be a lot of news or game impressions that night just lots of SGF goodness. Also note that while you'll still get an extended version, due to the special event, the public version of the podcast will go live shortly after the patron version.

Type your question, topic, or game in the comments below. If your entry is not selected, feel free to submit it again the following week. We appreciate your support and are grateful for each and every submission, if we're able to include them in the podcast or not.

It’s time for another round of Either/Or, the game where you must distinguish video game trivia from seemingly irrelevant topics. In celebration of the Final Shape, we have our first-ever sequel! Below are ten sentences, and for each one I want you to tell me if it’s flavor text from an exotic item in Destiny 2, or the tagline of a Tom Cruise movie. Adoration and admiration. 1. Can’t outrun the sunrise (Destiny, Sunshot Hand Cannon) 2. All we have now is our faith (Destiny, Traveler’s Chosen Sidearm) 3. No plan, no backup, no choice (Cruise, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol) 4. We all owe our existence to one singular moment, long ago (Destiny, Microcosm Trace Rifle) 5. Drink from me and live forever (Cruise, Interview with a Vampire) 6. Everybody loves him… Everybody disappeared (Cruise, Jerry Maguire) 7. Live on the edge (Cruise, Edge of Tomorrow) 8. Smother the lights and run (Destiny, Mothkeeper’s Wraps Hunter Gauntlets) 9. Desperate times… desperate measures (Cruise, Mission Impossible Rogue Nation) 10. For this, there is one remedy (Destiny, Armamentarium Titan Chest)

Greetings Allies, How we feelin about indies this year? Similar to last year, we have been graced with an amazing assortment of smaller gems this year. A few come to mind: Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Balatro, Dicefolk, Pacific Drive. Wanted to do an indie check-up during all this hype. How are you feelin? What stands out? Love and Respect

Hi Allies, Could the (unknown) sales numbers of FF7 Rebirth be due to the fact that the FF7 Remake PS4 version was available for free with PS Plus in a kind of chaotic way. First it was just the PS4 version without a clear upgrade path, and then later they made the full PS5 version available to PS Plus users, but you could only redeem it for a limited time. Now some of my colleagues and I are in a situation where we never got around to playing it because we thought "we have it and we can just postpone it". So no rush or need to play it now. Which leads us to the problem that we want to play Rebirth, but we need time to play Remake first. Also will we see FF7 or 16 at the Xbox Showcase? L&R

Salutations Allies, With SGF upon us, we will be inundated with game announcements and updates. By the time you record the podcast several things will have been revealed but what are some things you hope would get announced now or sometime in the future? More specifically a game/ sequel to something that meant a lot to you that might not be your typical answers like a new Resident Evil, God of war, Zelda etc, or something that hasn't had a new or proper sequel in forever? For example I would love to see a brand new entry in the Spyro the dragon or twisted metal series. Both game series were a huge part of my childhood and haven't really had a proper new game in ages. Okami is another game that I would love to see get a second chance at life. Along with a new entry at some point for Marvel vs Capcom or Castlevania. These series feel a little lost to time that I think deserve a chance to be back in the spot light. Love and Respect, Chris e

Hey allies! I’ve noticed this strange thing where great pieces of entertainment (movies, tv, and games) are attributed to companies/publishers instead of the actual people and studios that are making them. Some examples being A24 movies, Nintendo games, Devolver games, etc. Like I’ve heard many people say, “I love A24 movies!” It’s a weird thing to me to praise a movie production company for some movie you enjoy. Imagine if anyone said, “I love Amazon movies!” Do you think it’s the result of these companies having an established cult following or is it a result of entertainment production becoming more secretive that the only ones we can point to when talking about entertainment are the production companies and sometimes veterans/auteurs? Furthermore, do you think it’s a problem?

With the announcement of the Like a Dragon: Yakuza series, one large question remains: What role will Scarlett Johansson play?

Hey Allies, As of May 23rd 2024, Counter-Strike 2 has created a new evil in the world of Microtransactions. For those unaware, since 2013, Counter-Strike has allowed players to open weapon cases for a small price, usually a few dollars, in exchange for an equippable weapon skin. Now however, Valve have introduced a new case that gives you options when you try to open it. You can open the case as normal, with a random chance to receive one of the items in the case to keep. Or, you can choose to forgo keeping an item, and instead RENT access to most of the skins in the case for 1 week. While this is really gross, and serves a stark reminder that Valve are an innovator in Microtransactions, it did give me a fun, albeit twisted, idea. Here's a list of the 12 most iconic videogame weapons according to a recent article on gamerant.com. With your shareholder hats on, if you had to charge a dollar amount per hour for players to rent these weapons in their respective games, what do you think is the maximum amount you could justify? 12. Energy Sword - Halo 11. Rebellion - Devil May Cry 10. Master Sword - Zelda Series 9. Blades of Chaos - God of War 8. Keyblade - Kingdom Hearts 7. Hidden Blade - Assassin's Creed 6. BFG9000 - DOOM 5. Megabuster - Megaman 4. Soul Edge - Soul Calibur 3. Buster Sword - FF7 2. Vampire Killer - Castlevania 1. Gunblade - FF8 Love and Respect, Harrison

Greeting Allies! I was on Youtube a few days ago and came across a video titled, ‘If you grew up in the 2000s you’ll know this song’. The author started playing on a ukulele a song and sure enough it was the Mii channel from the Wii. This got me thinking about the personality of our game consoles. Specifically the lack thereof in current hardware. I mean the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS all had killer menus and customizable themes. The PS3 and 360 had similar. Even the PS4 had cool themes. The most I have right now is a throwback Xbox theme on my Series X that doesn’t move or change any sounds. And don’t even get me started with how boring it is to use the Switch without any themes or cool music. I feel like the personality of our consoles has disappeared and has instead been replaced ads and other corporate interests. So my question, why do you think this happened? What happened to the fun of a console menu and music? Thanks if you take my question, stay easy fellow allies. Joe Game Knight

Hello allies and friends. Have you ever gone extra mile just to show a game to someone? I did it recently with Alan Wake II, which I wanted to show to my parents who don’t play video games. We live in different countries, and many services don’t work in their region, so I had to stream the game to YouTube while talking to them via Skype. The 5 seconds YouTube delay meant that I had to provide my commentary with 5 seconds delay too, which was a bit tricky. I also had to translate all chapter songs (they are not localized) and figure out a way to show my translations in the middle of the game. And on top of that I’ve completely reinstalled Windows before showing them the game as I’ve experienced a couple of crashes when I did full playthrough rehearsals, and I wished to avoid these immersion-breaking interruptions. It was worth the effort though as everything went smoothly, and they’ve enjoyed both the narrative and the path-traced visuals.
