Love and Respect for Aug 2nd Podcast

It's time to get your questions in for this week's podcast. Isla and Damiani will be out this week, but if all goes according to plan, we will have Riana Manuel-Peña on the show for the first time. I still have a few things on my backlog to squeeze in, but we will be chatting about Thank Goodness, You're Here. And I'm guessing we'll likely include that Mortal Kombat news as well.

Type your question, topic, or game in the comments below. If your entry is not selected, feel free to submit it again the following week. We appreciate your support and are grateful for each and every submission, if we're able to include them in the podcast or not.

Please submit your entries by Wednesday at 5:00 PM. Be sure to include your preferred name if it's different from what's listed on your Patreon profile.

How closely does "most played game" alight with "favorite game" for you personally?

Greetings Allies, I was playing Sonic Adventure 2 recently. After all these years I'm still impressed with the opening level. Snowboarding down a street while city escape is playing will never get old to me. What are some of your favorite first levels in games and what do you think is the best first level ever? I noticed when I play certain games I get really invested in, most recently Dragon's Dogma II, but before that BG3 and Elden Ring. I do almost everything I can, just to play more of it (like stay up later, neglect other parts of my life etc...). And I get more cranky when I can't play those, that's when I feel gaming being more of an addiction. With most other games I can just shut it off or not play for a few days and be fine with it. But sometimes one of those "gems" comes into play and gaming becomes more of an addiction... but these games usually offer a certain engagement or immersion for me. So I think, for me, it is because they are actually better games and not just mindless time fillers.

Hey Allies, I'm going a little bit TMI here, sorry in advance. As a father of 3 I haven't got nearly as much game time as I used to... but a few weeks back I got the snip (yeah *ouch). BUT it actually got me a solid week off work (they said I could take sick-leave until I felt better... score!). And it was almost a (gaming) blessing in disguise. So, I decided to take one of your hyped up recommendations and dive into Dragon's Dogma II! And I completely marathon gamed that week, which I hadn't done in forever. And with 40+ hours I finished my run of the game, which was phenomenal! My question here, what's the craziest thing you had to do (or go through), to get some major bonus game time? When your environment gives you a "pass" so you can just unapologetically binge a game :D! L&R, Peter

Hey Allies, Over the past few months, I've gotten into a habit of collecting games from my childhood consoles. I'm mainly focussing on PS2, but also dipping in to PS1 and Megadrive. I've been having a blast, travelling out to retro game stores around the UK, bonding over my hobby with my incredibly supportive fiancee, and finding some really nice condition stuff. In that time, I've consistently had a holy grail in my mind at any one time. At the moment, it's a UK version of Sly 2 for the PS2. The series is relatively rare in the UK, and that game would complete my trilogy. For the panel, what is your holy grail videogame collectible? What would you love to own if you ever had the means and opportunity to obtain it, be it game, accessory, console, art, etc? Love and Respect, Harrison

Hello Allies, First and foremost and I want to thank Huber for recommending this amazing game This game has such a wonderful progression. Everything feels so earned as you start unlocking weapons, items, prayers, charms etc. The bosses ( so far I have beaten only two ) are very fun and challenging. There are three weapons in the game and each are unique along with it's level up. The traversal as well on how it's linked to your weapon. When you see a locked door you just wanna know how to open it. When you talk to NPCs requesting items and then when you find items and they help you with them such a bile, finding missing sisters, chalices. Everything has a purpose and is linked to something. The sculptor helping you as well. I haven't been so addicted to a game like this in a while. Thank you Huber for recommending Blasphemous 2:)

G’day Allies, Nintendo is known for their on and off console cycle, making one hit for the ages followed up by a commercial stinker. What do you think Nintendo needs to do with the Switch 2 to break this cycle? And what features specifically would you like to see? Love, Matan

Hello everyone! Recently, I saw a clip online of a woman going to her partner asking to game with him and his surprise and joy really brightened my day, so it inspired me to ask you: What's a time a friend or loved one went to you and wanted to play something with you without you expecting it, giving you a really happy memory? Thanks for taking this submission if you do, stay Easy fellow Allies, and What's Good Miss Riana!

Hello Allies, Last week streamer, MissMikkaa, beat the final DLC Elden Ring boss simultaneously with both her hands (controller) and feet (DDR dancepad)! Is this the greatest gaming feat (feet, insert pun intended joke here) ever?! It took her 4 days, 239 attempts (14 hours). I repeat, one of the hardest bosses even by FromSoftware standards x 2, at the same time! How do you top this? Thanks.

I don’t like being addicted to a game. We use the word “addictive” to apply to games a lot, and it kinda bums me out. When I feel like a game is trying to get me hooked via luck-based slot machine mechanics, I’m like, “Hey, eff you, game.” Some games slyly use slot machine mechanics to keep you on the hook for hours that turn to days that turn to weeks and months and even longer. Vampire Survivors has literal slot machines baked into the game, GTA V lets you spin the wheel at the casino every day, and don’t even get me started on Loot Boxes. I had to erase Marvel Puzzle Quest and Frozen Free Fall Snowball Fight from my PlayStation because that Match 3 gameplay, while limited, has just enough player engagement to make you just wanna keep on mindlessly playing. It’s addictive, but that’s hardly a good thing! Have you ever forced yourself to stop playing a game that tried to hook you? Are you currently addicted to a game you might not even like but you just “have to play more,” probably because there’s some skin at the end of the Battle Pass rainbow?
