Great pod! On the bloodworth thing of comparing miles morales and uncharted the difference IS the box. Shadow of erdtree requires you to play through elden ring to get to it. It’s an expansion of another game not another game that expanded off the last one. That’s a huge difference. That’s why I think people get so frustrated when they have all these genre categories that feel a bit forced without some easy basics with DLC and remakes. If you want to give ongoing games that aren’t multiplayer love that’s a great way to do it. Ff16 and persona 3 had expansions and even if they didn’t make the list that’s a spot to celebrate those games sailing off. And if you’re worried about it being crushed by continuous multiplayer games then make ongoing be that. There’s better ways to celebrate them. Erdtree is not a standalone game because it takes 80 hours of another game to get to it. If they wanted to make it a standalone then they should’ve done that. The year is stacked so that’s another reason why it feels forced and people are passionate about the things they like. I think for a bit people saw the game awards as a place where their opinions could be heard too since players can vote so there’s that too where that doesn’t actually matter but there’s this idea that it does which makes people react more strongly. If normal people couldn’t vote they’d probably not take it as hard

I don’t understand how Keighley can get mountains of feedback every year about the flaws of The Game Awards and yet he still makes these boneheaded decisions. Tighten up the categories and give speakers a reasonable amount of time. Not rocket science.

My only issue if I hadn’t played elden ring I have to play a 80 hours of a game to play the game of the year if it wins .
