Hello Allies! After 10 years of The Game Awards, how much longer do you think Geoff Keighley will be the host? Will it be another 10 years or even longer? If he does stop hosting, who do you think takes his place? Will it be one person? Two? A new guest host each year like the Oscars? If so, how did its popularity change your relationship with it? For me, it's Sonic. The cultural proliferation of the franchise since the first movie dropped in 2020 has astounded me. I think Sonic might be more popular right now than he was in the early '90s. Even two NFL players are going by the nicknames "Sonic" and "Knuckles". I heard retired Steelers coach Bill Cower utter "Sonic & Knuckles" on live TV while watching highlights with my Mom. Do you know how surreal that felt? When I was a kid, I was the only socially inept nerd in the school who was obsessed with Sonic. In the late '90s- 2000s Sonic's cultural relevance was at an all-time low. In the 2010's Sonic's reputation was so bad that Sega's social media team had to lean into the memes and make fun of themselves just to save the brand. And now in the 2020s, every little twerp running down the street is wearing a Sonic shirt and legendary NFL coaches are referencing Knuckles the frickin' Echidna. WTF is happening?
