Hey folks, Kuro here! We’re going to be dumping some more 5YL behind-the-scenes stuff soon now that the episodes are out. But here’s a peak at a scratch track from Episode 9 during MonKi’s debut.

I wanted his entrance to be a full celebration of Dragonball, as MonKi himself is an added reference back when the whole Ben 10 vs Goku discussions were at their peak.

Most of the time, I give Noxi notes with timecodes on how I want his tracks to be composed, though there are also times I’ve given him complete creative control. But with this track, I wanted it to be very specific, so I recorded this scratch acapella version with my own vocals to use as a reference. He did a pretty great job with the final!

The track uses two short melodies from the openings of Dragonball Z. The first being the main “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” from the original Japanese opening. The second is the melody of the start of the first verse from the Dragon Ball Z Kai Opening “Dragon Soul”, “Mysteries abound in this world that we will see” (or “Mysteries abound, made of a deep energy” depending on which version you’re listening to.)

I am by no means a professional singer, but this was a neat experiment with composing the track.
