When you try your hardest, but it's just not good enough...

Before I start, DarthVader Helmet has been added to the Drop Box, Enjoy!! there is a few people that are 100% finished printing it and glad to say, it fits and prints well.

Sorry for lack of updates over the past few days, I woke up this morning feeling like I was really going to get something done, then something splashed across the screen at Thingiverse.

Now, before I go on - this is a rant I will admit right now, some of you might even think I am having a whine and by all means please feel free to tell me  I am doing so, I can take it :) but I can promise you will not hear these often if at all.

I live out in middle of the outback, the only people I have to talk to are my kids, my wife and cows and kangaroos and while the cows are good listeners they don't make much conversation.  

I'm sure alot of people have seen the hairy lion printed out lately, and now featured on thingiverse. 

You might also notice they forgot to give any credit to the actual lion model on the front page, as did the hairy lions author and it was only after prompting did he add the remix tag and where the lion came from.

Now, the problem that is really bugging me here or has deflated me so heavily  is that after 5 odd years, hundreds of models.. striving to get on that front page to get the coverage (so you might actually BE ABLE to make something of it all..  but it never happens... ) Even after hundreds of people literally sending you messages saying they voted on this or that model, it's always to no avail.

Now, the hairy lion is cool - please don't get me wrong, I think what he did do the model was great and way mathematically complex for someone like me who is a visual designer not a mathematical engineer, and i'm happy that in some way it gets featured, albeit with no mention of me sadly lol. He didn't know it would get featured, he just had a cool idea and went with it - so again, please understand I like the hairy lion! this is not a pride thing (pardon the pun.. sorry I had to)

What irks me the most, is that they promote this new lion, they promote him, his page, his Tip button etc..  but I still don't get any credit - never had a feature, ever. He signs up and in 4 weeks of a remix, he gets featured.

All deflated ego matters aside, if you were Thingiverse.. would you not promote the designers who receive more tips and who generate more prints through their hub and has thousands of subscribers as opposed to 25?

Thingiverse make 30%!!! For every dollar I am tipped they make 30 cents
For every $50 print that is ordered, the designer gets $0 (yes nothing) while Thingiverse gets %30 and 3D hibs the other 70%.

Wouldn't you, as a business entitiy promote the designers that would in turn make you more money?? it makes no sense to me. Is Glitchpudding that lame that he would purposely lose revenue just to play mind games with someone?  who knows but it really looks that way from where I sit, but I've left there now so that's up to him to ponder.

If this was the first, second or third time you wouldn't hear me rant but wow, it's happened a few times now and I can deal with it usually but when you throw so many hours into something over so many years and really, you never are relying on getting that back i,e it's something you do because you love doing it -  but it's nice to get that recognition for doing so sometimes especially when you spend 80 odd hours on a model and your only wish is to see it get printed by people. - hence 150 odd free models on thingiverse and only a handful paid ones that I have)

You guys even signing up here and fact that you are supporting me means alot,  I know that I should not beat myself up about such stupid things but we are talking  solid years of my life now and it's hard not to take things to heart.

Yes, well for you guys it is ! :)

I will no longer be uploading any models to thingiverse, every model will now be release here regardless- so basically my models are going to be strictly PATREON ONLY, that means more unique models that only you guys will be printing. I don't know about you but for me, when I see the same model printed 500,000 times I have less desire to print it. :)
