Some upcoming goodies...

Well, I hear you all.. we love Star wars but it's not everything!

Well, this has always sort of been my personal philosophy anyway.  As much as I love a good Jedi battle, being born in the late 70's and having the majority of my childhood shaped by 80's sci-fi and adventure/action movies there is so much more than starwars models I want to create.  Now, this doesn't mean I still wont make them - of course I will but everything won't always be centered around it.

Above is a small video of the inner workings of a new model I am preparing for you guys, Kurgans Sword from Highlander!

Perhaps one of you knows or is a master carpenter? I actually need a box made for this thing in it's split up state, as in the movie.

I am planning myself to print, finish and then cast this in resin, so the modelling process is based around that. I only ever intend to print one and that will be the master for casting. I wasn't content with just having the sword as a sword, so I made it as the movie, breakable into parts (magnets will perform the clicks...) and a switchable twin blade with sliding hilt button. The side blades will click into place via magnet and also click-snap into extended place via neodymium magnets too, so there is no springs required, but it will still have a spring like effect.

So if you ever wonder what Geoff's printing, well it's things like this so we can get them perfect. The sword blade itself measures just on 1.1 metres long, so a box for it will need to be no less than 55cm wide after the blade is split.

So yeah, this is just one of the many things I am working on exclusively for you guys here. While we can often see a poorly made prop or model and simply make one to make a better one, it's sometimes alot more exciting to make props you just cant find, or at least not in a 3D printable sense.

Issue 7 is on track for early next week, just going over all the great suggestions yet again so I don't miss any.

cheers

Geoff.

I have a mate who could make the box.

Really love this, one of my favourite movies as a kid. Love that you are thinking outside the box on design as well. There are so many Iron Man builds and that kind of thing, this is well different.
