Videochat Extension (IP Locator for Omegle) in 2025: What Changed?

What Changed?

In December 2024, a large network of Omegle clones, including Chatruletka, Ome.tv, Chatalternative, and Minichat, unexpectedly changed their internal policy. They decided to ban any modifications to their sites made by projects like ours. The way this policy change was executed caused us to lose all trust in these platforms and ultimately led to the inevitable death of the original Videochat Extension. The shutdown of Omegle was worse by an order of magnitude, but all of that is in the past now because...

We have since created a new Videochat Extension from scratch.

This new version is focused on stealthy geolocation features and works with ANY video or audio chat site, including Ome.tv-like ones.

If you are an active patron, it can also operate in Browser Mode, which means that instead of modifying the website, it uses your browser as a data source.

This approach requires some additional browser configuration, but it is not a big deal, and it makes it very difficult for websites to detect that you are using the extension.

If you don't want to pay, that's completely fine; you can use the same set of features in Website Mode, which works great on many sites. However, some sites are blacklisted.

Patreon allows to fund the independent development of the extension and to limit the user base on hostile sites to only those people who truly need it.

Features

We managed to preserve the original interface as an option and many legacy features are still there, but we can’t change the websites directly anymore, because we must treat them as hostile environments (otherwise, they might detect the usage of the extension and treat our users poorly).

The workarounds for auto-skipping are technically possible, but persuading users to install separate externally connectable software to stealthy automate clicks, getting both Google and Microsoft to allow it in their stores, and ensuring ongoing maintenance across Windows, Mac, AND LINUX—all simply to improve the user experience on one hostile platform—is UNREASONABLE. Therefore, it is more practical to simplify our approach by eliminating deeply integrated features and focusing on a single purpose, which aligns with the core philosophy of the extension ecosystem.

As a result, certain features that relied on auto-skipping are no longer available.

Video call monitoring and geolocation still work, allowing you to see where your interlocutors are located and the IP addresses their devices reveal. You can now detect if someone tries to silently connect to you, such as a moderator or observer, because we can't filter them like we did in the original extension.

Some sites relay calls to hide the remote IPs (like Discord), while others spy in the middle to create creepy bots from real conversation snippets (like Coomeet Free). Therefore, you should not treat Videochat Extension as a tool that will 100% reveal remote IPs on any chat site; it does not work that way! In general, large platforms like Chatruletka tend to prefer P2P connections, as bandwidth is not free, especially when there are thousands of users online.

We are no longer on shaky ground, so we will build many new features that will extend our new universal platform and be useful for you across multiple sites, whether you are an active patron or not. However, it will take a considerable amount of time, as our plans are quite big:

The Dark Side

The dark side of the Force is tempting, but we intend to stay on the light one for as long as possible, continuing to focus on the needs of average users and the sustainable indie development of our browser extension.

Therefore, we will not provide assistance with bans, fix specific fingerprinting issues, or resolve similar problems, as they can significantly degrade the effectiveness of moderation on Omegle alternatives and ultimately lead to their shutdown. We are strong believers in the Golden Rule, so we will maintain this approach and continue our peaceful policy for as long as it is reasonable.

This tool will focus solely on WebRTC monitoring and geolocation, along with features that we can be built around them. While this may result in a much smaller monthly revenue, we believe that it is better overall for the side project.
