A Perfect Ten Pre-Release Preview

Today I wanted to show some more in-depth aspects of the game, as well as some renders that will be in.

Some Good Stuff

I've already shown off the first scene in the default outfit, so first up let's take a look at what one of the variations is like.

This is the "Classy Dress" version of the of scene. As you can see, even though it's just Angela with different hair, it looks almost like an entirely new character! All of the costumes in the game will have a variation like this.

Some Boring Stuff

Next up, I wanted to take some time to talk about the various stats and how the game will actually be played.

The game itself will be an exploration based game. It's made in RPG Maker, but there aren't going to be battles. I thought about doing battles in order to unlock stat increases, work bonuses, or even scenes, but I want the game to be fairly simple and laid back. Having battles just increases the stress of the game and makes it unnecessarily difficult to unlock things. I want getting new outfits and scenes to be relatively quick and easy, so that there's a relatively constant stream of the good stuff. I know it annoys me when I play a game for an hour or two just to get one scene that's only maybe 2-3 renders at best. So, you'll just walk around and explore to unlock things. Stats will play an important part of unlocking things as well. You'll need certain stats at certain levels in order to unlock areas, stores, jobs, and to interact with certain objects in the world. In the first release, there aren't going to be any discoverable outfits, but there's plenty that will be included in later updates. The first version will feature unlockable outfits through the Cosplay Cafe and the Hostess Club (which I'll talk about more later), as well as buy-able outfits at the mall.

Your Stats

Strength (STR) - You'll be able to raise this by going to the gym. It will be used for various physical types of things. Like you'll need it high enough to become a construction worker, or maybe you'll find a door that's jammed, or some kind of lid that's stuck. That kind of thing.

Here's what the gym area looks like.

As you can see, there's only one person in the gym right now. More will be added with future updates, and it'll end up being a bit fuller.

Intelligence (INT) - You can raise INT by going to school. Unlike the gym, there will be various areas in the university. It has more areas than any other. It has multiple classrooms, a faculty lounge, a courtyard, a gym, and a library. As your INT increases, you'll need to do different things in different parts of the school in order to increase it. Just like STR, INT is used for various things related to INT. Like maybe a place looks like something that would be a waste of time normally, but with high enough INT you'll recognize the potential. INT is also used to unlock the office job. Here's the main courtyard of the university.

It's a pretty big area, so the whole thing doesn't fit in a single screenshot.

Confidence (CFD) - Confidence is up next. You'll increase your confidence by hitting on women at the bar in the Redlight District. Confidence is primarily needed to gain access to new stores. Going alone into women's clothing stores to buy women's clothes as a man takes a lot of confidence after all. You'll be able to find the bar in the Redlight District. The bar isn't finished yet, so instead here's a shot of the Redlight District.

Much like the courtyard, the Redlight District is bigger than just one screen. It's one long street.

Charm (CHM) - Charm is an interesting one, because I originally didn't plan on it being in the game. After switching to RPG Maker, there were more stats in the game than I had planned. I didn't want to just have a random useless stat, so I split CFD in half, and made Charm. Charm will be increased by going to the Cosplay Cafe or the Hostess Club. Both of which are located in the Redlight District. You'll need to do both in order to get your charm as high as possible. Charm is going to be used in social situations. Like perhaps you'll want to get into an area guarded by someone. You'll be able to use your Charm to get past them, if it's high enough. Charm is also used to unlock the sales job. Originally, CFD was going to be used, but I thought Charm was a lot more appropriate for sales. There isn't going to be any areas that use charm in the first release, but they will be in later releases.

Here's the Hostess Club.

Much like the gym, it looks a little empty right now. Eventually, there's going to be a hostess in each of the different parts of the room, but for now, there's just the one.

Looks (LKS) - For the last of the normal stats, we have Looks. Looks is another stat I put in because of RPG Maker. I'm not entirely sure what to do with Looks yet. I thought about having it as a requirement to get into certain areas, like the Hostess Club, but I didn't want to create another barrier for an area that already requires a lot of money to access. So for now, Looks isn't used for anything. It's increased by your clothes, but all there is is the default clothes right now.

Stamina - Stamina is the most important stat. Stamina is used to do stuff. You have 101 stamina, and I don't plan on increasing it. You can recover your stamina by going home and sleeping. Once a day you can also sit on a bench to recover 40 stamina. Basically everything costs 20 stamina, so you can do 5 (or 7 with the bench) things before you have to go back and go sleep. I originally didn't want to have any kind of limitation on what you could do. But without any limitations, it gets kind of boring. You just click through an entire story, then find another one, and then click through it, etc. Breaking up the flow of the game gives more opportunities to go find something else and makes things more interesting.

The Main "Story"

A Perfect Ten was originally planned as a flash game in the same vein as Sim Girl or Ganguro Girl. So the story has never really been the focus of the game. There's a little bit of a story with Angela, but overall, I want more of a focus on unlocking scenes and outfits. I want more quantity of scenes, rather than more story.

That being said, the main story is about developing some kind of relationship with your new neighbor, Angela. You'll be able to talk to her and go on dates to see where things go. If you choose the right options and make Angela happy, going through the story will be quick and easy. If you make the wrong choices and Angela gets mad at you, it can turn into a grind real fast though.

In the first version of the game, there's going to be two main story events with Angela. I have a total of 6 story events planned for Angela. At least one will be added with each story update (so every other update). I have another 2 possible characters like Angela planned, who will have a short story and unlockable outfits. But if they get in will depend on how well the game is received. They'll be more like secret characters that you'll have to find and unlock, rather than like Angela who is introduced to you.

Moar Renders

I don't want to give too much away, but I wanted to show at least a couple of the renders for the other women in the game.

Here's the first girl you can hit on at the bar, the "Really Drunk Chick". If you decide to try and take advantage of her, the bartender will force you to get wasted. Which makes the scene end up like this, because you're too drunk to see things clearly.

Make the right decisions though, and you'll get the normal scene.

One thing I really hate about adult game development, is that it sometimes it can take years before you can actually have a real sex scene. Which makes sense from a story standpoint. If you're writing a more realistic story, just having people sleeping together immediately doesn't always make a lot of sense. So they go through all the teasing and the foreplay first. One of my biggest goals with my games is to avoid this. I want to get you right into the action as quickly as possible.

All of that to say, you'll be able to actually have sex with every character with a DAZ render in the game, as soon as scenes get added. There will usually be some kind of teasing or BJ scene first, but you wont be waiting for updates for the action. They'll both be added at the same time. More scenes may come later, but there will always be at least one actual sex scene. Once again though, that's only for characters that have scenes. Characters like the retail boss aren't going to have any scenes in the base game, because they don't have any kind of progression or story yet. Also keep in mind that only characters with DAZ artwork will be bang-able. I made sure to use the RPG Maker faces for everyone else.

Anyway, here's the first scene with Stacy at the gym.

This is Stacy at the start. The more "working out" you do with her, the more weight she'll lose.

All of that to say that one thing I did do, is I try to put more attractive women at the higher levels so that there's still a sense of progression. Rather than having just teasing and HJ/BJ scenes for months/years across all of the characters as their stories slowly progress. For example, the first tier of the school is Professor Bryan, but the next tier is Layla. Granted attractiveness is personal preference, but that's what I was going for.

Layla wont be showing up until probably the 3rd release, but I wanted to give an example of what I mean. I may also tweak her a bit before she actually gets put into the game.

Getting Close

As you can probably tell, the first release is getting close to being finished. I've actually already started working on the renders for the 2nd release. They general take a couple of hours to render, so I wanted to get them started as soon as possible. As of right now, all that needs to be done is to finish the bar area. Then take the scripts for the bar scenes from the Tyranobuilder version of the game and put them in. And finally, finish the scenes for 5 of the unlockable outfits. This may sound like a lot, but it's not.

For comparison, I've already built 18 areas, most of them much larger than the ones still needed to be made (counting ones I adapted from another game I was making). Scripted more than 40 scenes (not counting non-scene events like shops and object descriptions). Created 16 new character sprites. And made/remade more than 50 renders. So it's definitely getting close. I'm getting more and more confident I'll be able to release by the end of the month. Unless something terrible happens.

That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed the little preview of the game and will look forward to the initial release!

Until next time.
