In Deadpool With a System [15]

He gave Mike a knowing look. “You’ve been eavesdropping on everything in this base, haven’t you? You should know Angel’s personality by now.”
Angel’s sharp gaze locked onto Mike again. “So… is it true?”
Mike broke into a cold sweat. His mind went blank for a moment before he quickly nodded. “Yes! Since you’ve already said it, I guess I have no choice but to admit it.”
Taking a deep breath, he put on a gentle smile and looked at Angel. “The truth is… I’ve had a crush on you from the moment I first saw you.”
Angel remained silent, so he continued. “Most people only see your strength and your tough personality. But I… I see someone with a strong sense of responsibility. A woman who protects the weak. I believe that deep down, you must have a kind and beautiful heart.”
Dane grinned. “In other words, Mike is the type of man who values inner beauty over appearance. A true gentleman.”
[Perfect follow-up strike!]
[Dual-Wielding Mastery +17 (Current Dual-Wielding Mastery: 50)]
Angel crossed her arms. “Ever since I became a mutant, I never planned on getting into a relationship.”
Mike let out a relieved sigh. Thank god!
“That’s fine. I can wait,” he quickly added, just to be polite.
“You don’t have to wait.”
Mike froze. Something felt very wrong. “…What do you mean?”
“I’ve decided to date you,” Angel stated matter-of-factly.
BOOM.
A bolt of metaphorical lightning struck Mike’s brain. He sat there in stunned silence for several seconds.
Dane clapped his hands, beaming. “Congratulations! I can’t believe I’ve only been here for a day, and I’ve already helped a friend find a girlfriend.”
[Mike already regrets meeting you.]
[You’ve successfully thrown him into the fire pit.]
[Healing Ability +15 (Current Healing Ability: 50)]
Mike, now visibly sweating, forced a dry laugh. “M-Maybe we should think about this a little more?”
Angel didn’t even blink. “No need to think about it. Come to my room tonight. You know where it is.”
“…Uh.”
Mike’s soul nearly left his body. “We just met… shouldn’t we, uh, get to know each other first? Take things a little slower?”
Angel nodded. “That’s exactly what we’ll do tonight. We’ll get to know each other better.”
Mike wanted to cry. She didn’t leave me a single escape route!
In a last-ditch effort, he turned to Dane, silently begging for help.
Dane smirked. “You’re lucky to have a friend like me. In just one day, I’ve set you up with a strong and reliable girlfriend.”
Then he patted Mike on the back. “No need to be shy. Since Angel already made up her mind, you should say yes.”
[Mike is now completely stuck. He wants to refuse but doesn’t dare to. The thought of being alone with Angel tonight makes him want to just go home and end it all.]
[Mind Control +15 (Current Mind Control: 30)]
“Are you guys done eating?”
A sudden voice rang out from behind Dane, making both him and Mike jolt in surprise.
Turning around, Dane saw Ajax standing there, his expression calm but expectant.
“Yeah, I’m done. Just taking a moment to cultivate the energy in my dantian.”
Ajax raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment on Dane’s nonsense. “Then let’s go. The test subjects and the facility are ready. We’re just waiting on you.”
“No problem.” Dane got up without hesitation. He turned to Mike and Angel with a smirk. “You two take your time chatting. I’ve got work to do.”
With that, he left alongside Ajax. The moment Dane was gone, an awkward silence settled over the table. Mike and Angel, now left alone, suddenly found the atmosphere much colder than before.
….
After a short walk, Dane and Ajax arrived at Zone B, stopping in front of a large, secured room.
Six armed guards stood at the entrance, each wearing gas masks and gripping their weapons tightly.
Dane glanced inside through a reinforced window. Inside, five people—four men and one woman—were strapped to metal-framed beds.
Each of them bore visible wounds, their bodies covered in bruises, cuts, and dried blood.
Ajax spoke in a neutral tone, as if describing a routine procedure. “They’ve been here for nearly a month. None of them have mutated. We don’t keep test subjects past a month. So, whether they live or die tonight depends on you.”
Dane corrected him with a smirk. “Not on me—on my gas.”
[Ajax prefers refined speech. He dislikes your constant use of crude language.]
[Odor Resistance +10 (Current Odor Resistance: 25)]
Ajax sighed. “Call it whatever you want. The point is, it’s your turn to step in.”
Dane took a step forward but then stopped. “Wait a minute. Where’s my gas mask? You’re not expecting me to hold my breath in there, are you?”
Ajax gave him an unimpressed look. “You need one too?”
“Of course! Sure, it’s my gas, but if I stay in there too long, even I won’t be able to handle it.”
Ajax glanced at his men before picking one at random. “Give him your mask.”
Without hesitation, the soldier removed his gas mask and handed it over.
Dane took it with satisfaction, adjusting the straps as he turned toward the heavy steel door. “Alright, I’m going in. You guys wait out here.”
As the door slid open, Dane stepped inside.
The moment he entered, a voice full of hostility rang out.
“You bastard! If you’ve got the guts, just kill me already!”
Dane looked toward the source of the voice. It came from one of the restrained men—a rugged-looking guy with a defiant glare.
The man struggled against his restraints, his body covered in scars and fresh wounds. His breathing was ragged, but his attitude was as fierce as ever.
“You keep doing this experiment crap every damn day—what’s the point!? If I ever mutate, the first thing I’ll do is rip your head off!”
Dane didn’t respond. He wasn’t interested in arguing with a dead man walking.
But the defiant man mistook Dane’s silence for fear. His lips curled into a sneer, and he kept pushing.
“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue? You scared?”
