In Deadpool With a System [17]

BANG!
Ajax shut the door with a loud thud, leaving Dane alone with the captives.
With a sigh, Dane adjusted his gas mask, securing it firmly over his face.
His Odor Resistance stat was already at 70, meaning he could endure the stench for over an hour.
But just because he could, didn’t mean he wanted to.
His body wouldn’t react to the smell, but his mind definitely would. And the last thing he wanted was to traumatize himself with his own creation.
At that moment, one of the captives—a timid-looking man—shuddered in fear.
“W-We’re all test subjects… T-There’s no need to kill each other, right?”
Seeing Dane put on the mask made him imagine all sorts of horrible scenarios.
Dane glanced at him. “If you want to survive, just hold your breath. I can’t guarantee what’s about to happen next.”
“What— Are you really planning to gas us!?”
Another man gawked in horror. “No way, that’s too insane! What kind of twisted torture method is this!?”
“No, please! Anything but that! That’s disgusting!”
A woman squeezed her eyes shut in pure distress.
Dane clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Instead of wasting time screaming, why don’t you take a few deep breaths while you still can?”
He paused before staring at them seriously.
“Listen carefully. I’m not here to kill you. I’m here to save you.”
The room fell into a tense silence.
Dane’s voice softened slightly. “You already know, right? Any test subject that fails to mutate within a month gets ‘disposed of.’”
Nobody responded, but their faces paled.
Of course, they knew.
It wasn’t just their own lives at stake—but their families’ too.
That was the real nightmare.
If not for that threat, some of them would’ve gladly chosen death over enduring these endless, painful experiments.
Seeing their hesitation, Dane didn’t stop talking.
“The gas I release is unbelievably awful. So bad that even I’ve passed out from it before. But—” He looked at them one by one. ”—it has an extremely high chance of triggering your mutant genes.”
“What!?”
One of the men stared at him in disbelief. “You’re saying… your gas can awaken our mutations!?”
“You expect us to believe that?” Someone scoffed. “If that were true, why didn’t they use it from the start!?”
Dane smirked. “Because I just mutated today. And in less than 24 hours, I’ve already awakened three mutants. You guys are from B-Zone, so you must’ve heard about today’s successful cases, right?”
The captives froze.
One of them hesitated before asking, “That was… you?”
Dane snapped his fingers. “Bingo.”
Then, he leaned in slightly. “And once you mutate and gain your abilities, you won’t just survive—you’ll be strong enough to overthrow Ajax’s entire facility.”
His voice dropped to a tempting whisper.
“You won’t just escape. You’ll become superheroes.”
A spark of hope flickered in their eyes.
They weren’t just listening anymore.
They were believing.
[Brainwashing successful. They now trust your words.]
[They are already imagining what powers they might get.]
[They have placed all their hopes… on your gas.]
[Your influence has greatly increased. Mental Resistance +50 (Current Mental Resistance: 60)]
“Hurry up and do it! I can’t wait any longer!”
“Aim it at my face! I want to get stronger!”
Dane chuckled, raising a hand to calm them down. “Relax, relax. There’s plenty to go around. Everyone gets a fair share.”
Then, with a deliberate pause—
Pffffft!
A vile stench flooded the room.
The confined space trapped the gas, turning the air thick and yellowish as it swirled around them.
At first, the four captives hesitated, their faces tense with anticipation. Then, realizing there was no other choice, they forced themselves to inhale the wretched fumes.
Like fish stranded on land, they gasped desperately, drawing in every bit of the foul air, hoping—praying—for their mutations to awaken.
But the moment the stench hit their lungs, their eyes widened in horror.
Their so-called determination?
Completely shattered.
They had severely underestimated what they had just signed up for.
This wasn’t something a human could produce.
This was evil incarnate—the fermented wrath of something that should’ve been locked away for centuries.
“Urgh—!!”
The first one broke.
His stomach turned inside out, and he vomited violently, spewing chunks of half-digested food across the floor.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Then—
Four synchronized fountains erupted.
One after another, they hurled uncontrollably, their bodies convulsing from the sheer toxicity of Dane’s unholy emission.
The vomit sprayed in different arcs, some shooting high before splattering down onto their own faces, others projecting forward onto their fellow captives.
By the time they were done, the room was filled with a symphony of gags, heaves, and retches—an orchestra of pure suffering.
—
Outside the room, Ajax listened… and smiled.
The sound of agonized wails and gut-wrenching puking was all the confirmation he needed.
Glancing at his wristwatch, he nodded.
Based on previous experiments, those exposed to the gas would lose consciousness first. Then, their mutation process would take roughly half an hour—if it worked.
THUD! THUD!
A few minutes later, knocking came from inside the room.
Through the reinforced glass window, Ajax saw Dane standing there, motioning for the door to be opened.
“Open it.”
One of his men unlocked the door without hesitation.
The moment the door cracked open, Dane bolted out, practically throwing himself into the hallway.
BANG!
The guards slammed the door shut behind him, ensuring none of the poisonous fumes leaked out.
Dane took a deep breath, stretching his arms. “Next time, I’d suggest designing a gas mask that blocks odors too. This one only stops toxins, not the smell.”
[Your words have unwittingly reminded Ajax that even a gas mask is useless against your emissions.]
[Weakness Exploitation +10 (Current Weakness Exploitation: 10)]
Ajax narrowed his eyes. “Are they all unconscious?”
Dane nodded casually. “Yep. If you want to check, be my guest. Just be prepared to dig through layers of puke to figure out who’s who.”
