日本には「干支」という文化があり、「十干と十二支の組み合わせを指す語」のことを言います。

日本では「干支」というと、ね、うし、とら・・・と十二支のみを指すことが多いです。

十二支は、「子・丑・寅・卯・辰・巳・午・未・申・酉・戌・亥」の12種類の動物によって構成されます。

当時、中国では、人々は木星の位置で年を数えていて、木星の公転周期が12年であるために天を12等分しました。

この時に誕生したのが十二支の起源。子から亥の12個の漢字は、中国で数を表すものです。
